The practice of training and patient care in infectious diseases began as a subspeciality section in the Department of Internal Medicine in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in November 1983. After 30 years, the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology was founded in 2013. Our scope of activity can be categorized in three fields: Education, Research and Patient Care. The main purpose of education is training of physicians capable of implementing a rational approach in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Many research projects that pioneered in problem-solving in Turkey and contributed to medicine in general have been conducted in clinical and laboratory practice. Our patient care is patient-oriented, and in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine.
