In vitro studies conducted in the Departmental Research Laboratory can be categorized as follows:
- Studies of antimicrobial resistance: In vitro activity of new and/or repurposed antimicrobials, alone or in combination, against community-acquired infectious agents (Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae), and healthcare associated pathogens (carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant Enterocccus faecium)
- Laboratory surveillance of nosocomial infections: Screening for, and comparison of screening methods for certain healthcare associated pathogens (carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium) . Implementation of various molecular methods (ap-PCR, PFGE) in the epidemiological analysis or outbreaks.
- Studies with Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Pathogens: Detection of, and comparison of diagnostic methods for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Mycoplasma genitalium. Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in STIs.
